At Chiltern Academy, we provide students with a high quality history education, allowing our pupils to gain a clear understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world.

In our lessons, we encourage independent learning using a well-focused enquiry-based approach to achieve this. This enables students to ask perceptive questions, think critically, analyse evidence, examine arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.

In doing so, this gives students at Chiltern the best possible chance in understanding the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

In year 7 students study a range of topics and develop skills in accordance with the National Curriculum.  They begin the year with the era of the Norman Conquest before moving on to complete a depth study on the Middle Ages.  The students then continue to look at the concepts of Religion and Power through studying the Tudors and Stuarts. The final term will consist of a local study of Luton, where the focus is on work outside the classroom through extensive enrichment activities. We will make use of local expertise and local provision, for example, museums and sites of historical interest in order for students to gain a greater understanding of the local history.
